Special Awards and Recognition

MSU Army ROTC’s Outstanding Citizen of the Year (2003)

I initiated a partnership between local VFWs, MSU’s Army ROTC and the respective buildings I taught in within Okemos Schools.  An annual Veterans’ Day Program was hosted by each school, through which students honored and then learned from the veterans who entered classrooms following the program.  This occasionally led to subsequent visits by veterans and/or military science professors to speak to different classes re: contemporary political affairs and/or historical conflicts.

This could be considered related to the MI Curriculum Framework also as some of the benchmarks within the “Civic Participation” strand from the MCF were effectively addressed.

Recognition of Service to Okemos High School’s Building Planning Team(02-03)

Recognition of Service to Kinawa MSl’s Building Planning Team(99-01)

P-12 Collaborative Work

Initiated a partnership with Jackson Northwest Schools to promote literacy (grades K-5) through eight evening “Literacy Nights” planned and presented by the pre-service teachers in my EDU 350 evening course

Initiated a partnership with Northeast Elementary (Jackson Public Schools).  Select NE Elem. Teachers will mentor my EDU 350 pre-service teachers as they present standards-based lesson plans within these site-based classrooms.

Continued the partnership with Parma Elementary in the manner mentioned above (EDU 350 course.)
