Criminal History Record Check
Instructions

The criminal history record (CHR) check is now (as of 1/18/07) a required part of the student teaching application process.

Students will need to complete the Criminal History Record Check Consent Form that is now part of the student teaching application and bring it with them to the pre-student teaching interview. At this time, your placement director will advise further.

Endorsement candidates, who student teach in their own classroom, will already have a CHR on file with their school district and thus, will not be required to complete another CHR.

Please keep in mind that no student will be allowed to begin student teaching until an acceptable Criminal History Record report is received by SAU. Students should also be aware that receipt of this report may take 1-2 months and you will need to plan ahead accordingly.

Students at the off-site locations will need to bring a receipt for fingerprinting to the TESA (Teacher Education Student Advisor) to be photocopied for their file. The receipt is considered proof that a CHR has been completed, while waiting for an acceptable report to arrive.  The original receipt must be presented to the TESA. A copy will not be accepted. Students who have had a CHR check through another agency will need to take a signed release form to the agency where the CHR was completed.

Please keep in mind that no student will be allowed to begin student teaching until an acceptable Criminal History Record report is received by SAU.
