Courses (cont'd)

Elementary Professional

The elementary education professional course sequence of 27 hours plus 6 hours of support courses must be completed with a GPA of at least 2.60 with every individual course grade at 2.0 or above.

  • EDU 200 Foundations of American Education (3)
  • NSC 200 Elementary Science Survey - Science by Inquiry (4); required support course and prerequisite for EDU 354
  • SST 200 Human Society: Learning in the Social Studies (3); required support course and prerequisite for EDU 354
  • EDU 350 Teaching Reading and Language Arts (5)
  • EDU 354 Teaching Social Studies, Science, and Mathematics (5)
  • EDU 360 Integrating Technology in Teaching (2)
  • EDU 450E Directed Teaching (12); additional credit hours and/or additional weeks will be required for endorsements in such areas as early childhood education and special education:learning disabilities. A student who also wishes to have student teaching experience at the middle school level will be required to petition to do additional student teaching.

Early Childhood Endorsement

The optional early childhood endorsement course sequence for elementary education consists of 26 hours and must be completed with a GPA of at least 2.60 with every individual course grade at 2.0 or above.

  • EDU 265 Social Foundations of Early Childhood (3)
  • EDU 266 Early Chlldhood Growth and Development (3)
  • EDU 267 Early Adolescent Development (1); EDU 266 and EDU 267 are taken in lieu of EDU 262 in the elementary education minor
  • EDU 365 Curriculum and Methods of Early Childhood Education (3)
  • EDU 368 Young Children with Special Needs (3)
  • EDU 416 Policies and Standards for Early Childhood Professionals (2)
  • EDU 430Z Sminar Teaching Early Childhood (1)
  • EDU 450Z Directed Teaching Early Childhood (6)
