The English Language Institute is dedicated to actively instructing international students in learning academic and communicative English language skills, and in understanding the expectations and culture of the American classroom and community.

Placement into the appropriate levels and classes is based on the TOEFL, as well as a battery of diagnostic tests (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery-MELAB) that are administered at the beginning of each semester.
